The #EEA2024
welcomes you to Berlin
The German capital is this year’s host city for the European Excellence Awards and we are very much looking forward to seeing you here on 6 December! Of course Berlin has a lot more to offer. If you are wondering what you could do be before or after you hopefully receive your EEA trophy, we have a few Berlin inside tips for you.
EEA & Arts
Berlin is world-famous for its vast number of museums, with over 170 located throughout the city. One museum always worth visiting is the Humboldt Forum. It offers a variety of exhibitions, performances, concerts, and many other cultural activities.
Today the Humboldt Forum stands on exactly the site where the Palace of the Republic once stood – a symbol of political power in East Germany. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and in honour of this, the program Blown Away. The Palace of the Republic at the Humboldt Forum is dedicating an annual focus to this lost landmark.
Definitely worth visiting!
EEA & Holidays
During the holiday season, you’ll find a Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) around almost every corner in Berlin. Small, large, romantic, alternative or luxurious – with about 80 to choose from, we’re sure you’ll find one you really enjoy while you’re in town for the EEA. The one at Kulturbrauerei, for example, is certainly worth a visit thanks to its creative, artsy, colourful offerings and unique setting.
EEA & Urban Culture
Until just a few decades ago, the Todesstreifen (Death Strip) cut right through the centre of the city, brutally separating the two halves from one another. These days, the Mauerpark, which sits on part of its former site, is one of the most vibrant places in Berlin. Sometimes referred to as Berlin’s outdoor living room, the park is the perfect place for music, street art, interesting food, people-watching, or just walking around. Very Berlin!
EEA & Music
Whether opera or ballet, techno or world music, you’ll find live music of almost every genre in Berlin, day and night. If you want to couple your EEA experience with some classical glamour in the heart of the city, the Konzerthaus at Gendarmenmarkt is definitely worth a closer look.
EEA & History
The tours given by Berliner Unterwelten (Berlin Underworlds) provide a unique glimpse into the rich history to be found in – or, more accurately, under – the city. They cover several fascinating periods – from the darkest chapters of the 20th century, to some pretty amusing stories from the Cold War era.
